Triumph of Joan of Arc

In the eyes of the Art Critic, “it dominates the gallery as eternity dominates life.
This great inflamed figure has the elements of that rare art that outlives the present.
The martyr descends by the flames in death and ascends by the very same brush strokes.”

Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer.
Be faithful, even to the point of death,
And I will give you the crown of life.  Rev. 2:10

Jesus never says that being faithful to him we will avoid troubles, suffering and persecution.  Rather, we must be faithful to him in our sufferings.  Only then will our faith prove to be genuine.  We remain faithful by keeping our eyes on Christ and on what he promises us now and in the future.

Lord, I pray: make me unwavering, even at the face of death.  Let me not be broken by the blood of sin.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are crushed in spirit.  Psalm 34:18

“I have come not to call the righteous
But sinners to repentance.”  Luke 5:32
