Inspiration: O morning star, son of the dawn!” Isaiah 14:12 Pride willfully opposes God and will result in judgement. Israel made the mistake of being too proud to depend on God, and we are vulnerable to that same mistake. He replied, “I saw Satan fall like
When Satan lost the battle against Michael and his angels, "he was hurled
to the earth, and his angels with him" (Rev. 12:9). That means that
right now, on this earth, there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions,
of fallen angels, foul spirits, bent on our destruction. And what
is Satan's mood? "He is filled with fury, because he knows that his
time is short" (v.12). So what does he spend every day and every
night of his sleepless, untiring existence doing? "Then the dragon
was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against...those who obey
God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus" (v. 17).
Technique: The downfall of Satan, and Adam’s failure in the Garden of Eden, brought about a cataclysmic upheaval in the universe which has affected every aspect of God’s creation. A curse fell upon the earth which has taken its toll on all forms of life, reaching deep into the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms. The truth is that although God originally set up the universe with Himself as its rightful King, the earth has, by reason of Adam’s sin, become a revolted province. The dominion which God gave man in the beginning (Gen. 1:26) has now passed into the hands of Satan, and God’s great design and desire is to once again bring the earth and its inhabitants into joyful submission to His own authority. Despite the rebellion in His universe, God is pursuing a cosmic purpose which involves the re-establishment of His kingdom throughout the whole earth by means of the personal intervention of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. The turbulence of what is happening is reflected in the turbulence of my painting technique. The lake and sky are transparent, and the brushstrokes reflect energetic spontaneity. Form and content are subordinate to expressive intent—a sense of doom prevails. Olivia Cameo Lewis, 1997 *Available in limited edition giclee
