Fear, as the King James Version of the Bible tells us, has torment [1 John 4:18]. It can paralyze us and prevent us moving forward in life. The whole meaning of God taking our flesh (in Jesus) is that we should learn what God is like and how the life of God can be lived in our world. The world into which Jesus came was a world of sickness and suffering, wickedness and hate, treachery and deceitfulness. There were many things of which He could have been afraid. His secret was that He had such complete trust in His Father's love and power that He could go through life without the disablement of fear. His fearlessness was rooted in His complete confidence that His Father loved Him and would not allow anything to happen to Him unless it accorded with His purposes. Assured of that, how could He fear? Infinite wisdom and infinite love were over and behind everything. He knew that the most diabolical machinations of evil were powerless against the throne of God. Our Saviour could confront the darkest probabilities and not be afraid. Filled with trust and love, His mind had no crevices in which fear could hide. And because His mind is in us, neither should we. Father, help me to keep ever before me this simple fact that whatever
You allow into my life will work for good to me. Impress this thought
so deeply into my spirit that it will stay with me at all times.
In Jesus' Name. Amen.
