Jesus’ Sacrifice “For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15:22 Your money, if kept outside of Him and His purposes dies, dies because it has no purpose. Your deeds outside of Him also decay and die for they have no eternal purpose, hence no eternal life. Your relationships, including marriage relationships, die if they are not in Him. They have no eternal meaning and hence no eternal life. All is permanent, safe and secure in Him. Outside of Him nothing is permanent, safe and secure— “In Adam all die”. In making the statement “As in Adam all die” Paul is pointing to the mortality of the human race through our kinship with Adam— the progenitor of the race— whose nature we share. But it also points us beyond that to the spiritual evil of which physical death is at once the symbol and the penalty. There is more, in other words, to dying than just physical death. The smell of death is on everything that is outside of Jesus Christ. Pathetic attempts to make things have meaning without Christ are just like putting rouge on the face of a dead person; the effect is cosmetic. In Christ life reigns! “In him was life, and that life was the light of men” (John 1:4). Everything, which is in Him, having been surrendered to Him, has life— by the very fact of being in Him. It is not something added as an extraneous gift but something that is inherent. Everything Him lives and everything outside of Him dies. O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory? Thank you my Saviour that those who are in You have the assurance that death has been disarmed and lost its poisonous sting. All honour and glory be to Your Name forever. Amen. |
