My
art career had its birth by the influence and encouragement of a very special
friend, Everett Lewis Jenkins. "Mr. Ev", as I fondly call him, is my renaissance
man and father image. He inspired me to explore my drawing skills
and instructed me with insights on oil painting. A painter himself,
he continues to be the model for which I look to in my own endeavors.
I am eternally grateful to him for his loving advice, discipline and guidance
in all walks of life.
As galleries and museums began using web sites
to exhibit works of art I found it increasingly important to do likewise
in order to maintain
visibility and increase patronage. However, my computer literacy resembled
the phrase I often hear from non-artistic folk, "I can't draw a line".
The idea of having a web site seemed unreachable until I met Nancy Medeiros.
We shared common interests: tennis, painting, writing and our faith...not
to mention our desperate cravings for sushi and ice cream. We seemed to
balance one another . As it turned out, Nancy created her own web site
for her former business, Fibromeet, and offered to help me create a web site for
my art business. In exchange, I gave her private art lessons and did some legal
work for her. The unselfish hours Nancy willingly contributed touch me.
It
is the love, support, and faith of my husband, Wayne J. Lewis, however,
that makes possible the fulfillment of this dream. When I needed slides
of my artwork to send in for exhibition entries, it was my husband who
learned all he could about photographing artwork so that I could enter
art exhibitions and it is the quality of those slides which made possible
the many exhibits that I have had and continue to have. When I needed
to communicate across the country, it was my husband who set up an email
account for me. Moreover, he attends local showings with me and allows
me to drag him to galleries. Most of all he allowed me to be who
I am and follow a dream regardless of how little he understood of the arts.
I can't express adequately in words how loved he's made me feel.
He worked tirelessly to get me online with a web site, he gave me full
support financially in a very chancy endeavor, and he was by my side to
show commitment to what I believe is God's calling. So in acknowledging
the love of my husband, I dedicate this website to him with my love and
appreciation.
God has blessed me with so much, to be used
as His instrument to evangelize His Word through paintings is an honor
I cannot fathom. I therefore give back to Him all of this for His
honor in worship and praise.
