An Ode To Ev
(with apologies to Dr. Suess)
Today I prayed for your in your hour of need,
I didn’t do much I just answered the call to heed.
You’re smiling face and tears that you have shown.
I knew that Ev was going home.
He was just so much fun , but oh what a stinker.
I knew that those sharp blue eyes would wink, wink, winker.
His humor was as sharp as a tack.
He knew what he was doing, He couldn’t hold back.
He grew up a Cornhusker, His sisters two, too.
Architecture was his passion,
All the
Art
Schools
said ”Boo, Hoo, Hoo”.
He had a blast, But you had to laugh,
HE completed UNL in three and a half.
He loved speed and He said “That’s Me”
He served as a pilot in the
Philippines,
San Diego
and the
North China Sea,
He didn’t stop there and live his “Glory Days”
His career in Architecture soon began his design craze.
He had Ken, Linda, Sandi, and Jeff.
He loved them dearly but there was more left.
From Churches to missions and beautiful homes,
Ev left his mark on various stones.
He designed for the Olympics and carved out life.
Sometime in there though, he lost a wife.
He did various businesses from Chocolate to design,
But people knew him because he was kind,
He had a heart for the community, but mostly for kids.
He would share knowledge with them, while twisting the paint lids.
A Big Kid he was and that Engine of a brain would “revvve”
Many kids have fond memories of “Mr. Ev”
Teaching them perspective, line, and art.
Arm wrestling and treats were always a part.
He met Shary and her band of three, Mark, Brian and Bruce
He knew that she was the one that he could not let loose.
The one who he could cherish, love and Grow with the Son.
A love that wouldn’t be undone.
Twenty-Three and a half years, The Lord graciously gave.
IF you saw their love, you would have to rave.
He lived life like a whirl, that Top Gun man,
From G-Force to Tremors, you knew where HE would stand.
He stood up for CHRIST. “Leave the Cross There”! He said.
He knew in His Heart, he had nothing to dread.
His wish to ride” Aftershock” could never come true,
But you see now he is far better, up in the blue,
Riding the winds with Christ, someday we will see,
That riding with HIM is so much more glorious than any rollercoaster
will be.
I had to write to get my feelings out.
I hope that it makes you smile.
I love you. Vicky
